What is the Role of a Teacher?
The role of the teacher has been modified within the last fifty years, perhaps even the last ten years in American education. There have been so many cultural and societal progresses that have catapulted teachers to being more than classroom instructors. Furthermore, there’s equally that many changes within the student population that have required teachers to expand past the requirements outlined on their contracts. With the growing changes in both the demographics of students and society, the educators that instruct students for eight hours a day need to be aware of the both positive and negative influences in a child’s life. The teacher’s primary responsibility is to educate and instruct students to succeed and progress to the next grade level. However, not too far behind – teacher’s other responsibilities include: advocate and mentor. Teachers are the primary guardians of children during the school day. Because students come to school with home, environmental, and social problems on a daily basis, the teacher has a responsibility to make sure students are safe.
